The Internet contains a wealth of information on cancer from a variety of perspectives, and we encourage our visitors to visit other sites to supplement what is available on the UCCRC site. Thus, we provide a list of web links to sites related to a variety of cancer-related issues. Our list is lengthy but certainly not comprehensive. We provide these links as a service to you, but, of course, we cannot take responsibility for information provided by other organizations.

Please do not look at any web sites as substitutes for professional medical care and advice. If you have, or suspect you have, a health problem you should consult your physician. This is especially true in regards to malignancy. Cancer is a large group of very complex diseases that vary dramatically in their natures and impacts. Moreover, the dynamics, symptoms and effects of each form of cancer differ significantly from patient to patient.

The heart of ACOR is a group of free, discussion lists, which enable participants to discuss clinical and non-clinical cancer issues.

  • American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN)

  • The official site of the NCI-funded cooperative group focusing on diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapeutic technologies.
  • The American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG)

  • This is the official site of the NCI-funded cooperative group established primarily to evaluate the surgical management of patients with malignant solid tumors.
  • Cancer and Leukemia Cooperative Group B

  • Sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, this national clinical research group has its headquarters at the University of Chicago. The CALGB was founded in 1956 with a goal of bringing together clinical oncologists and laboratory investigators to develop better treatments for cancer. Today it is a national network of 29 university medical centers, over 225 community hospitals and more than 3000 oncology specialists who collaborate in clinical research studies aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality from cancer, relating the biological characteristics of cancer to clinical outcomes and developing new strategies for the early detection and prevention of cancer.

  • Centerwatch: Clinical Trials Listing Service

  • This site provides information about clinical research and lists more than 41,000 active industry and government-sponsored clinical trials, as well as new drug therapies in research and those recently approved by the FDA.
  • Children's Oncology Group (COG)

  • This NCI-funded cooperative group focusing on children and cancer. COG's home page is also the portal to CureSearch (see links section Children and Cancer.)
  • Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group

  • This is the official site of one of the first cooperative groups launched to perform multi-center cancer clinical trials. It has more than 90 active clinical trials in all types of adult malignancies with annual accrual of approximately 6,000 patients.
  • European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)

  • The purpose of EORTC is "to conduct, develop, coordinate, and stimulate laboratory and clinical research in Europe to improve the management of cancer and related problems by increasing survival but also patients' quality of life."
  • Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)

  • This NCI-funded cooperative cancer research group focuses its research on women with pelvic malignancies, such as cancer of the ovary, uterus, and cervix.
  • The National Cancer Institute of Canada's Clinical Trials Group (NCIC CTG)

  • This cooperative oncology group carries out clinical trials in cancer therapy, supportive care and prevention across Canada and internationally.
  • National Cancer Institutes Introduction to the Clinical Trial Cooperative Groups Program

  • This site describes the program that supports and integrates the efforts of 1,700 institutions involved in recruiting participants for group-conducted clinical trials.

  • This cooperative group focuses on breast and colorectal cancer.
  • North Central Cancer Treatment Group

  • Since 1997, the UCCRC has provided this unique resource to patients and their families. Last year, the UCCRC—in partnership with the University Hospitals, the American Cancer Society and the Duchossois family—remodeled the Cancer Resource Center and moved it to a more accessible and convenient location and expanded its a broad range of services. The new Cancer Resource Center is a welcoming facility where people can learn about the disease in all of its many manifestations, get answers to their most troubling questions and link with worthwhile community resources. The ultimate goal of the Center is to dispel much of cancer's mystery and replace rumor and myth with fact and truth.
