Clinical trials translate discoveries made in the lab into promising new treatments and procedures that enhance patient care. They enable researchers and clinicians to extend the boundaries of advanced cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment and make it possible for patients to profit from the very latest and most promising treatments.

That is why the UCCRC has developed a strong clinical trial program. We use clinical trials to test investigational drugs and to identify effective new cancer therapies. We work diligently to turn laboratory discoveries into clinical applications that bring the benefits of our breakthroughs to patients as soon as it is safe and practicable. We also provide access to clinical trials to community oncologists and minority populations via a network of affiliated hospitals.

Recognized as the leader in clinical trials in Illinois, the UCCRC has earned a reputation for excellence and innovation.

Receives more than 40 percent of all peer-reviewed funding awarded to the Biological Sciences Division and Hospitals.

Performs more clinical trials than at any other facility in Illinois.

Is one of only two institutions in the country that have both the leaders, and the capacity to conduct all three phases of clinical trials:

Dr. Mark Ratain's Phase I cooperative agreement with the NCI is one of only 15 nationally.

Dr. Everett Vokes' Phase II contract with NCI is one of only eight nationally.

Dr. Richard Schilsky has made UC the host institution for the Cancer and Leukemia Group B, one of the nine national cooperative cancer clinical trials groups.
