The Pharmacology Core Facility conducts clinical pharmacology, biochemical correlates, and pharmacogenetic studies with the aim of improving the quality of life and outcome for cancer patients. The Facility is essential for the development, validation, and implementation of analytical methods to assess the effect of drug pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics, and for measuring biochemical correlates necessary to define bio-modulatory drug doses and optimize drug administration schedules. The Core has two components: biochemical and analytical. The Biochemical Component satisfies the demand for correlative biochemical assays that include assessment of markers for drug resistance, assay of pharmacological targets, and isolation of lymphocytes, DNA and RNA for pharmacogenetic studies. The Analytical Component performs primarily HPLC and LC-MS for drug concentration and metabolites in biological fluids.
